About the Project
"Following the publication in 1980 of Mille Plateaux, Félix Guattari began work on Un amour d’UIQ, a film script for a science fiction movie. Initially developed in collaboration with filmmaker Robert Kramer, the script of UIQ (Universe Infra- Quark) was to occupy Guattari on and off for the next seven years, although the film was finally never made. In this audiovisual essay, artists and filmmakers Silvia Maglioni & Graeme Thomson consider the evolution of the UIQ script amid a general resurgence of interest in science fiction in the late 1970s and early 1980s. _ By placing echoes of the unfilmed script in relation to a montage of scenes from sci-fi films of the period, Maglioni & Thomson aim to isolate the singularity of UIQ in the virtual dimension of what it might have been and what it may yet become."

Vom Anti-Ödipus zur Chaosmose

Helmut Neundlinger zum zweitägigen Symposium an der Akademie der bildenden Künste in Wien

Félix Guattari ist Mythos und Enigma zugleich. Der 1930 im Norden Frankreichs geborene Denker entzog sich zu Lebzeiten jeder Art von einschränkender Zuschreibung. Er selbst bezeichnete sich als "Schizoanalytiker", aber auch dieser Begriff umfasst bei weitem nicht alle seine Tätigkeitsfelder. Er arbeitete mit psychisch Kranken, mit Künstlern und Revolutionären, unterrichtete, verfasste zahlreiche Bücher – darunter seine wohl bekanntesten, "Anti-Ödipus" (1972) und "Tausend Plateaus" (1980), gemeinsam mit dem Philosophen Gilles Deleuze.

Der französische Schizoanalytiker Felix Guattari (1930-1992) ist unbestritten Teil der Philosophiegeschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts. Allerdings hält diese eine undankbare Rolle für ihn bereit: Immer noch fristet er ein Dasein im Schatten seines ungleich berühmteren Kollegen und Freundes Gilles Deleuze. Im Gefolge der politischen, sozialen und intellektuellen Unruhen der späten 1960er-Jahre hat sich das Denken von Deleuze radikalisiert und entakademisiert. Dies verdankt sich nicht zuletzt dem Einfluss Félix Guattaris und dessen praktischen Erfahrungen aus der Bewegung der institutionellen bzw. psychotherapeutischen Analyse, sprich: der beständigen Arbeit an der sozialen Entfremdung, die wir durch Institutionen jeder Art erfahren. Früchte dieser außergewöhnlichen Kooperation sind u. a. die legendären Publikationen „Anti-Ödipus“ und „Tausend Plateaus“ – eine Revolution des akademischen Diskurses, aber mindestens ebenso wichtig für künstlerische und politische Strömungen und Bewegungen...

Chaosmic spasm and the re-thinking of desire
In “Chaosmosis”, Félix Guattari uses the concept of “chaosmic spasm”. By “spasm”, he understands an intensification of the rhythm of the desiring organism that leads to panic and is a prelude to depressive blackout. The spasm is a form of vibration, the searching for a new rhythm. But if this search does not lead to a successful end, the organism can enter into a phase of paralysis. Chaosmosis is a mode of alleviating the spasm. By reflecting on the concept of chaosmic spasm, one can rethink desire as a problematic concept.

„Alle kollektiven Einrichtungen – und zwar egal welche, unter anderen auch die Fabrik – sind an der semiotischen Unterwerfung unter das Kapital beteiligt. Doch sie bieten auch genauso viele mikropolitische Gelegenheiten für das Formieren von neuen Deterritorialisierungsvektoren, das In-Aktion-Versetzen des chaosmotischen Grundes sowie der Ströme, aus denen die Welt besteht, die unendlich viel kleiner ist als molekular oder nano.

from Helsinki (Mollecular Organization), Paris (Presque ruins) and Sao Paulo (Cia Ueinzz Theatre) convene in Lisbon at the day of General Strike to the first stage of KAFKAMACHINE.
KAFKAMACHINE is an organizational experiment on cooperations to come. Its beginning is in the notes written by Félix Guattari in the 1980’s and published recently under a name Projet pour un film de Kafka.

Modernity through the Looking Glass takes up the current broad-based reassessment of modernity, examining the ethnological conception of animism as it was framed in the context of colonialism as well as the concept of animism in psychoanalysis.
